Maxie Signs with Bearcats

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Northwest Missouri State University head men's basketball coach Steve Tappmeyer has announced the signing of Brandon Maxie (San Antonio, Texas) to a national letter-of-intent. Maxie is transferring to Northwest from Eastfield College in Mesquite, Texas.

Maxie is a 6-foot guard. He was an all-conference selection for head coach and former Northwest assistant Chris Johnson. Maxie scored 15.2 points and pulled down 6.0 rebounds per game for Eastfield. He also averaged 3.7 assists and 1.9 steals per game last season for the Harvesters. Maxie converted his three-point field goal attempts at a rate of 44 percent and shot better than 82 percent from the free-throw line.

Maxie was a standout in high school as well. He was an all-city selection at East Central High School in San Antonio, Texas.

"We're real excited to have Brandon as part of our program," Tappmeyer said. "I think he's a great match for our team. He is a good player, coming out of an excellent program. Our connection with Chris Johnson makes it a natural for him to play at Northwest. C.J. knows what kinds of players we look for and Brandon is definitely one of them."

"Eastfield is very proud of Brandon and extremely happy about his decision to attend Northwest," Johnson said. "He is joining a championship program and a coaching staff that is one of the best in the nation. As one can see by his stats, Brandon is a versatile guard, who can score, defend, pass and rebound. He will continue the tradition of great guards who have played for Coach Tappmeyer. Being an alum of Northwest, I can't wait to see Brandon in the green and white next year."

Maxie will be a junior at Northwest next fall.
