Golf Shoots Program Record, Captures WinLIBERTY, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State golf team had a 30-stroke improvement and captured the 2013 William Jewell Women’s Golf Tune-Up title Friday afternoon at the Cardinal Hill golf course.
The Bearcats shot a combined 309 in the final round, moving the team from a tie from third after day one to the top of the leaderboard on Friday. Last season, the Bearcats shot a combined 311 at the Ottawa Fall Invitational, which was the previous team low score record.
“I thought today was an amazing comeback by our team,” said head coach Pat McLaughlin. “Today we played exceptionally. We were a bit stunned after our day one total but to go below 310 for the first time in the history of our program is a great accomplishment.”
Individually, Taylor Gard was Northwest’s top finisher, shooting equal rounds of 80 to place third overall. Right behind Gard was teammate Kristina D’Angela, who placed fourth with rounds of 84 and 77. Cassie Lowell finished sixth (87-75), and Ashley Powers placed 10th (88-77).
Teams in the field included host William Jewell, Rockhurst, Park University and McKendree University. There were 39 total individual competitors.
The Bearcats will have a quick turnaround, heading to Bolivar, Mo., to compete in the Drury Invitational at Silo Ridge Golf Club starting on Monday, Sept. 9.
