Snow cancels final round, Lowell and Bearcats finish 3rd
SMITHVILLE, Mo. – Unexpected snow has moved into the north Kansas City area forcing Tuesday’s final round of the MIAA Golf Championship to be canceled. Monday’s first round scores will count as the final round with Northwest Missouri State and junior Cassie Lowell both finishing third.
Lowell fired a first round 76 to sit in third place and five strokes behind the clubhouse leader, Aly Seng of Central Oklahoma Monday. Seng will become the MIAA Individual Champion after her first round score of 71.
The Bronchos take the MIAA team title after a day one 301, while Northeastern State finishes in second place after a 310. The Bearcats fired a 324 Monday and will finish third for the second consecutive season after battling back last year to place third.
Truman State finished with a 329 while Missouri Western rounded out the top five with a 331.
Two Northwest individuals earned top 20 finishes as Taylor Gard fired an 80 to finish 11th. Steph Charteris finished Monday tied for 19th after closing her round with an 83.
Kristina D’Angela finished with an 85 to close out the Bearcat scoring.
UCO’s Erica Bensch separated Lowell from first place as she fired a 75 Monday to finish second.
