Bearcats in first at Early Bird Invite
BRANSON, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s golf team sits just two strokes ahead of rival Missouri Western at the Central Missouri Early Bird Invitational at Pointe Royale Golf Course after Monday’s first round.
In the first tournament action of the season for most teams in the Midwest, the Bearcats got a solid team performance in round one. Junior Cassie Lowell and sophomore Steph Charteris led the way for Northwest.
Lowell stands in second place after a first round 88 and is just six strokes behind the leader Natalie Bird of Missouri Western. Charteris, finished they day in third and is just one stroke behind Lowell after shooting an 89.
Two Bearcats finished in the 90’s on day one, Taylor Gard and Kristina D’Angela. D’Angela carded a 93 while Gard finished with a 96.
As a team, Northwest finished with a 366 to sit two strokes ahead of the Griffons at 368. Fort Hays State enters Tuesday’s final day in third after a 395, while the MIAA’s newest women’s golf program, Central Missouri, finished with a 397.
