Northwest takes top honors on the course
MARYVILLE, Mo. – Despite the weather Northwest Missouri State’s golf team was able to take home first place Friday as they hosted seven other schools at the Bearcat Fall Classic.
The weather the second day was almost as bad as the first. Mozingo Lake Golf Course was cold, windy and some spectators reported seeing snowflakes, however that would not stop the Bearcats.
Northwest finished in first place shooting a 656. Missouri Western (672), William Jewell (695), Ottawa (740) and Central Missouri (753) rounded out the top 5.
Sophomore Steph Charteris started Friday in third place, but she would not finish there.
Charteris shot an 81 on Thursday and came back to score a 73 on Friday. Her two day total of 154 gave her the lead and the win at the Fall Classic.
Northwest grabbed second place as well. Junior Cassie Lowell shot a 78 on day one and 83 on day two for a 161 two day total.
Sophomore Ashley Powers finished tied for fifth place (167), while senior Tess Edwards tied for seventh place (171).
Junior Kristina D’Angela and freshman Amber Norman both shot 173 and finished tied for 10th place.
The Bearcats end the fall season with an excellent showing, finishing second once and three first place finishes.
