Bearcat golfers show well against top region foes
MARSHALL, Minn. – Steph Charteris earned her fourth top 10 finish of the fall season to help the Northwest Missouri State women’s golf team to a fifth place finish Sunday at the Southwest Minnesota Mustang Invitational at the Marshall Golf Club.
Charteris opened with a first round 82 to sit seven strokes off the lead after day one. The sophomore would improve on day two with a season best 77 giving her an eighth place finish. As Charteris improved so did the rest of the field as Emily Kvidera of Augustana (S.D.) fired scores of 76-70 to take home the title.
Augustana captured the team title followed by Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State in third. Wisconsin-Eau Claire finished fourth followed by the Bearcats and host Southwest Minnesota tied for fifth. The Bearcats did finish well ahead of MIAA foes in the field as Missouri Western placed 10th and Central Missouri finished 15th in the 17-team field.
Junior Cassie Lowell also earned a top 20 finish as the Bearcats were matched up against some of the top teams in the Central Region as well. Lowell finished tied for 18th with consistent rounds of 83 and 80 for the two-day tournament to help Northwest finish in the upper half of the field.
The rest of the Bearcats played consistent golf over the two days as Kristina D’Angela fired scores of 86-80. Nearly all second day scores toped Saturday’s first round.
Taylor Gard finished with rounds of 85 and 87 as Tess Edwards was also consistent with scores of 88-85 to round out the scoring for the Bearcats.
The Bearcats wrap-up their fall season Oct. 4-5 as they host the Bearcat Fall Classic at Mozingo Lake Golf Course in Maryville.
