Bearcats finish record day with title
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Steph Charteris and Kristina D’Angela shared the Ottawa Invitational Individual Championship as the pair helped propel the Bearcats to the team title Tuesday at the Eagle Bend Golf Course.
The Bearcats finished day one in first place after tying a school record Monday with a 316. From there the Northwest golfers broke their own record with a 311, for a two-day score of 627. Northwest finished ahead of Southwestern College at 691 and host Ottawa at 721.
Paced by Charteris and D’Angela the Bearcats also got a solid performance from junior Cassie Lowell. Lowell finished third giving Northwest three of the top four finishers with a 77 and 80 for her two rounds.
Amber Norman rebounded after a first round 84 to shoot her career low, 78 putting all four individual scores for Northwest in the top 10.
Tess Edwards tied a career low shooting a first round 82 however her second day score of 86 kept her out of the top 10 as she finished tied for 11th.
The Bearcats have a quick turnaround as they head to the Southwest Minnesota Fall Invitational Saturday to face off against top teams from the Central Region. The 2013 season will mark the first season that Northwest golf has competed in the Central Region after spending the first five years of the program’s history in the West Region.
