Four Bearcats named WGCA Academic All-Americans
MARYVILLE, Mo. – In addition to three first place finishes during the 2012-13 season, the Northwest Missouri State golf team was just as successful off the course with Cassie Lowell, Steph Charteris, Taylor Gard and Tess Edwards being tabbed Academic All-Americans by the WGCA.
This is the third consecutive Academic All-America selection for junior Cassie Lowell. Lowell has an impressive resume through three seasons at Northwest including MIAA Freshman of the year in 2010-11 and MIAA Player of the Year in 2011-12.
Steph Charteris earned her second Academic All-America honors after three first place finishes in the 2012-13 season. Charteris backed up her 2011-12 Freshman of the Year honors by averaging a score of 80.5 throughout the season.
Sophomore Taylor Gard had to top five finishes in 2012-13 with her best finish coming at the William Jewell Fall Classic shooting an 80 in round one and a 78 in round two. This is the first Academic All-America selection for Gard.
This marks the second selection to the Academic All-American team for Tess Edwards. Edwards had her best finish during the Bearcat Classic as she finished seventh with a two round total of 171.
The Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) recognized 644 women’s collegiate golfers throughout the NCAA with this prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics with a minimum GPA of 3.5.
