Gard fires career low in first round action

First Round Results

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Taylor Gard completed her best round of her career and sits in second place individually as she paced Northwest Missouri State in the first round of the Green & Gold Classic Monday at Mozingo Lake Golf Course.

Gard fired a first round 78 which was just one shot off the lead as golfers battled high winds off Mozingo Lake. Gard’s season low round also propelled the Bearcats into a first after Monday’s first round action with a 328 team score.

Missouri Western sits just five strokes behind the Bearcats in second at 333 and Lincoln stands in third at 341. William Jewell will open Tuesday in fourth after a 377 first round as Graceland rounds out the group with a 390.

Lincoln’s Kaitlyn Schwartze holds a one shot lead over Northwest’s Gard after day one’s low round of 77.

Cassie Lowell stands tied in fourth place after an 82 on Monday and Kristina D’Angela is one stroke back of Lowell in sixth.

All four scores for the Bearcats stand in the top 10 as Ashley Powers sits tied for eighth after an 85 on Monday afternoon.

Teams will travel to St. Joseph, Mo., for Tuesday’s second round to prepare for a shotgun final round start from Fairview Golf Course. The shotgun is set to kickoff at 9:30 a.m.
