Charteris paces Northwest to 2nd place finish
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State golf team capped one of its more complete finishes of its young start and of the 2012 season holding on for a second place finish Monday at the Missouri Western Invitational on the St. Joseph Country Club.
Northwest entered Monday’s second round in second place, but need solid rounds to hold off three MIAA schools and a top region foe.
The Bearcats claimed their second place finish by holding off Concordia-St. Paul, Missouri Western and Fort Hays State. Central Oklahoma ran away with the team title shooting a 641 as Northwest finished second with a 683.
Steph Charteris paced the Bearcats capturing a second place individual finish with rounds of 77-82-159. Charteris was only four strokes behind individual champion Chaney Uhles of UCO who finished with a 155. Her Monday round of 77 was tied for the second lowest round of her career.
Cassie Lowell continued her solid spring with rounds of 80-87-167 to finish ninth her 18th top 10 finish of her young career.
Rounding out the Northwest scoring was Kristina D’Angela who finished tied at 22nd and Ashley Powers who finished 24th. D’Angela rebounded to shoot a second round 86 after a first round 92 on Sunday.
Northwest bested Concordia-St. Paul by 14 strokes after holding a 12 stroke lead at the end of day one.
Missouri Western finished third at 698 while Fort Hays State shot a 705 for a fourth place finish. Truman State was the final MIAA team in the field and finished sixth.
