Bearcats charge back for 2nd place finish
SMITHVILLE, Mo. – The duo of Steph Charteris and Cassie Lowell staged a Northwest Missouri State run Tuesday as the Bearcats rallied for a second-place finish at the Early Bird Invitational at Paradise Point Golf Course.
Lowell who fired a first round 95, battled back to tie for low round honors on Tuesday with a 79. Lowell finished in the top 10 for the 16th time in her career.
Charteris was solid both days with rounds of 87-84 for a 171 mark in the first tournament of the season. Charteris also tied for 4th with the late charge.
Northwest finished eight strokes behind Missouri Western at 691 while the Griffons carded a team score of 683 for the team title. Maryville University’s Kayla Eckelkamp took home the individual title with rounds of 81-79-161 as she led from start to finish.
Ashley Powers narrowly missed a top 10 finish after a 175 placed her 11th and Taylor Gard carded a 179 to finish in tied for 16th.
Chelsea Clark earned a top 10 finish as she participated as an individual for Northwest. Clark finished with scores 90-84-174 to tie for 8th.
