Golfers stand in 2nd after first round of 2012
SMITHVILLE, Mo. – Opening the spring season for 2012 the Northwest Missouri State women’s golf team took aim at Paradise Point Golf Course, the site of the 2012 MIAA Championships, on Monday and stand in second place after one round of the Early Bird Invitational.
The Bearcats sit just 11 strokes behind Missouri Western who leads the team standings after the first round at 340. Northwest will head into Tuesday’s final round tied with Maryville University at 351 and a 10 stroke lead over third-place Rockhurst.
A trio of Bearcats stand in the top 10 after day one, Steph Charteris, Kristina D’Angela and Ashley Powers. All three players finished with a first round 87 and are five strokes behind the individual leader, Kayla Eckelkamp of Maryville U.
Taylor Guard finished with a first round 90 and is currently in the top 15 after a 43 front nine and a 47 on the back nine.
Cassie Lowell carded the fifth score for Northwest with a first round 95.
The seven team Invitational will tee off on Tuesday morning to close the final round the Bearcats first tournament of the spring season.
