Lowell claims second title, Bearcats finish second
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Cassie Lowell claimed the individual title at the Bearcat Fall Golf Classic as she helped the Bearcats claw their way to a second place finish on Friday afternoon at Mozingo Lake Golf Course.
With high winds picking up during Friday's final round Lowell stayed consistent and battled the elements off the lake to fire an 81-162. She duplicated her first round score as she picked up her second win of the fall season and fifth of her young collegiate career.
As a team the Bearcats shot the lowest team score of the day with a 342. Northwest finished the tournament 17 strokes behind champion Missouri Western who carded scores of 335-343-678.
"I was really proud of our girls," said head coach Pat McLaughlin. "It says a lot about our team not giving up and shooting the final round's lowest score. They battled tough conditions today and they played really well from top to bottom as a team."
Freshmen Steph Charteris added another top five finish as she bounced back to fire an 83 and finish at 171.
Tied for 14th, Tess Edwards rebounded with an 89 to close out the tournament with a 182.
Taylor Gard and Kristina D'Angela rounded out the scoring for Northwest tied for 18th with a score of 186. Gard struggled with a final round 95, as D'Angela turned in an 89 after a tough first round on Thursday.
Individual scorers for Northwest included Jacy Gasper who battled the tough conditions to fire an 85-173 and earn a top 10 finish.
The Bearcats quickly return to the road as they travel to Park University for their final tournament of the fall season. The Duce Course at National Golf Club of Kansas City hosts the Park Invitational and the two-day event which begins on Monday.
