Lowell one shot back at Bearcat Classic
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State women's golf team battled strong winds Thursday afternoon at the Bearcat Fall Golf Classic at Mozingo Lake Golf Course on their way to a second place finish after day one.
The Bearcats got another solid first round performance from sophomore Cassie Lowell who fired an 81. Lowell's consistency placed her just one shot back in second place behind Rockhurst's Emily Gonderinger.
The back nine at Mozingo Lake played considerably tougher with high winds gusting from the morning's shotgun start. Freshmen Steph Charteris was one shot off the low score on the front nine with a 39, but a 49 on the back nine led to an overall score of 88 where she sits in a tie for 10th.
Taylor Gard finished tied for 16th with a first round 91 while Tess Edwards rounded out the Bearcat scoring with a 93.
Northwest sits 18 strokes behind Missouri Western and two shots ahead of third place Rockhurst at 353. The Griffons fired a 335 and placed all four scorers in the top eight as they raced out to a commanding lead heading into Friday's final round.
Friday will again be a shotgun start as players tee off at 9 a.m. from Mozingo Lake Golf Course.
