Charteris rallies for first collegiate win
HAYS, Kan. - Steph Charteris rallied for her first collegiate win of her short career as the Northwest Missouri State women's golf team finished third at the Fort Hays State Fall Invitational late Tuesday evening.
Charteris started the day in fourth and fired one over on the back nine to shoot 81 in the final round. Charteris forced a playoff with Fort Hays State's Kiley Johansen who also shot a 165 for the tournament, but Charteris only needed the first playoff hole to capture her first tournament win.
"Steph was outstanding fighting to help bring us back and picking up her first win," said head coach Patrick McLaughlin. "As a team we played better on Tuesday, but so did everybody else and we couldn't close the gap."
Northwest finished 21 shots back of FHSU who took home the team title as the entire field found improved scoring on day two.
Cassie Lowell notched another top five finish firing back-to-back days of 83 for 166 and a third place finish. Lowell has finished in the top five in all four fall tournaments for the Bearcats.
Taylor Gard finished in 12th with a two day total of 179 while Ashley Powers rounded out the Bearcat scoring with a 186 and 17th place finish.
Northwest returns to action Oct. 6 and 7 hosting the Bearcat Classic at Mozingo Golf Course in Maryville.
