Bearcats within striking distance at Hays Invite
HAYS, Kan. – After three consecutive tournament wins the Northwest Missouri State women’s golf team find themselves 13 strokes back as Cassie Lowell and Steph Charteris sit in the top five at the Fort Hays State Invitational on the Smoky Hills Golf Course.
Lowell, who has one tournament win during the fall season, is in third after a first round 83. The sophomore started her round with a 44 on the front nine, before rebounding to shoot 39 on the back side.
Charteris sits in fourth place and is also coming off her first win of the fall season. The freshman is looking for her third top five finish in four tournaments. She stayed consistent on the day firing a first round 84 and is just five strokes behind the individual leader, Kristen Cooley from Missouri Western.
Cooley has Missouri Western in second place behind host Fort Hays State who has placed all four scorers in the top 10.
Taylor Gard and Ashley Powers rounded out the Bearcat scoring as Gar sit in 13th and Powers in 20th.
The Bearcats tee off at Smoky Hills in Tuesday’s final round in a morning shotgun start.
