Bearcats finish fifth at conference meet
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State seniors Jessica Feuerbach and Erin Luchtel placed in the top 15 to lead the Bearcats to a fifth-place finish at the MIAA Championship Meet hosted by Tiffany Greens Golf Course Monday and Tuesday.
It was the final collegiate meet for both golfers and for teammate Lauren Atkinson, who golfed in the five position during the tournament. The trio of seniors was part of the inaugural team who began Northwest's women's golf program in 2007.
Feuerbach carded a 17-over-par 89 in cold, wet and windy conditions Tuesday and improved two positions from day one to place eighth overall. Her two-day total of 174 (+30) was nine strokes back of Nebraska-Omaha's Armana Christianson, who placed third.
Luchtel shot 94 in the second round, 181 for the tournament, and finished in 15th place. Bearcat freshmen Kristina D'Angela and Cassie Lowell placed 18th and 23rd, respectively.
Nebraska-Omaha's five golfers all finished in the top six to lead the Mavericks to their third consecutive team title. Truman rallied to earn second-place honors and finished one stroke better than Missouri Western.
Nebraska-Omaha's Danielle Suponchick, who tied for the lead with teammate Amy Powell heading into today's final round, shot 9-over-par Tuesday, 13-over-par for the tournament and beat the field by four strokes. Truman's Jennifer Lawson placed second at 17-over-par. Powell was 18-over-par in Tuesday's round alone and slipped to fourth.
