Northwest, Lowell win William Jewell Invitational
LIBERTY, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State freshmen Cassie Lowell and Kristina D'Angela placed first and second, respectively, to lead the Bearcats to a win at the William Jewell Invitational held Monday and Tuesday at Cardinal Hill Golf Course.
It is the second tournament win in four days for Northwest, which next competes at the MIAA Championship Meet April 18-19 in Kansas City, Mo. It is also the third tournament Lowell has won during her freshman campaign and first since taking the Ottawa Invitational back in September.
Lowell shot a 3-over-par 75 Tuesday to overcome a 5-stroke deficit to her teammate, D'Angela. The 75 is the second-best round in program history. Lowell finished 18-over-par for the tournament, seven strokes better than D'Angela and Rockhurst's Madison Smith.
D'Angela led the field by three strokes after shooting a 10-over-par 82 Monday - her best round as a collegiate golfer. She backed that up with an 87 Tuesday.
Northwest finished with a team score of 687. Rockhurst finished 27 strokes back in second place. William Jewell (738), Avila (745) and Park (747) rounded out the top five of the eight-team field.
Senior Erin Luchtel (89-87) tied for eighth place to make it three Bearcats in the top 10. Tess Edwards (91-89) placed 12th and Jessica Feuerbach (93-93) finished in a tie for 19th place.
