Northwest wins Central College Spring Invitational
PELLA, Iowa-Northwest Missouri State placed five golfers in the top nine to win the Central College Spring Invitational played Friday and Saturday at Bos Landen Golf Course.
The Bearcats topped Central and Luther, a pair of Division III teams out of the Iowa Conference, in what turned out to be a triangular after two AIB golfers withdrew after round one.
Northwest's team score of 709 (360-349) was 27 strokes better than second-place Central (736). Luther (763) settled for third.
Central's Sarah Paulson shot a 7-over-par 79 to beat out Northwest's Cassie Lowell for medalist honors. The two entered the final round in a tie at 14-over-par. Lowell shot 12-over-par Saturday and finished five strokes back. Lowell has placed fourth or better in nine of 10 meets during her freshman campaign.
Kristina D'Angela fired back-to-back rounds of 89 to place third, one stroke better than Luther golfers Laura Davis and Kate Traxler. Bearcats Jessica Feuerbach and Erin Luchtel tied for seventh place with a 182 (+38). Tess Edwards was ninth with a 183 (+39).
The Spring Invitational is the fourth tournament Northwest has won this season. The Bearcats will compete in the William Jewell Invitational Monday and Tuesday in Liberty, Mo., in the team's final preparation for the MIAA Championship Meet.
