Northwest second at Green and Gold Shootout
ST. JOSEPH, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State golfers Cassie Lowell and Jessica Feuerbach earned top-10 finishes to lead the Bearcats to a second-place trophy at the Green and Gold Shootout held Monday and Tuesday. Tournament co-host Missouri Western finished 21 strokes better than Northwest with a two-day team score of 693.
Seven teams and 41 women battled the elements as well as each other during the two days. First-round wind gusts neared 40 miles per hour at Monday's round held at Mozingo Lake Golf Course in Maryville, Mo. Warmer temperatures came Tuesday but wind speeds still reached better than 20 miles per hour at Fairview Lake Golf Course in St. Joseph.
Missouri Western's Lexi Webb shot a tournament best 8-over-par Tuesday to match Park's Plern Prombboopa's 36-hole total of 168. Prombboopa was declared tournament winner following a card-off which compared the two's single-hole scores on Mozingo's top handicapped hole. Prombboopa bogeyed the par-4 seventh hole Monday while Webb double bogeyed.
Lowell shot rounds of 88 and 84 as did Missouri Western's Kristen Cooley to finish four strokes back of the leaders in a tie for third place. Lexi's younger sister, Casi Webb, took fifth place at 28-over par (88-85). Feuerbach finished sixth at 29-over-par (90-84).
Northwest's Tess Edwards and Kristina D'Angela tied for 15th place with a two-day total of 186. Erin Luchtel placed 22nd with a score of 196.
All seven teams and all but four golfers shot better at Fairview than they did at Mozingo. As a team, Northwest shot 367 on day one and 347 on day two. Rockhurst finished 27 strokes back of Northwest in third place with a total of 741. Park (783), Nebraska-Kearney (797), William Jewell (805) and Ottawa (898) rounded out the field.
