Two in a row!
LINCOLN, Neb.-Northwest Missouri State won its second golf tournament in nearly as many days as the Bearcats bested nine other programs at Nebraska Wesleyan's Fall Invitational. Highlands Golf Course hosted Sunday's rounds while Pioneer Golf Course hosted Monday's.
The victory comes two days after the Bearcats took the team title at Graceland's Yellowjacket Invitational. Northwest shot a program-record 325 Sunday, followed that with a 335 Monday and finished 27 strokes ahead of second-place Midland Lutheran.
Freshman Cassie Lowell became Northwest's first-ever medalist. She fired back-to-back rounds of 78 and 81 to finish at 14-over-par, two strokes better than Sam Pingel of Midland Lutheran. Lowell has placed third, second and now first in her first three collegiate events.
Bearcats Jessica Feuerbach and Erin Luchtel placed third and fourth, respectively, at 19- and 20-over-par. It's the second consecutive top-five finish for both golfers. Feuerbach shot a personal-best 79 Sunday. Luchtel shot 80 Sunday - a personal best for her.
Junior Megan Chaney made it four Northwest golfers finishing in the top 10. Chaney shot 88 and 84 to finish in a tie for ninth place. Freshman Kristina D'Angela placed 12th with a two-day total of 176.
Northwest will go for three in a row Sept. 27-28 at the Ottawa Invitational in Lawrence, Kan.
