Northwest wins Graceland Invitational
LAMONI, Iowa-Northwest Missouri State placed three golfers in the top five and won Graceland's Yellowjacket Invitational Saturday at Lamoni Golf and Country Club.
It's the third team victory for Northwest's fourth-year program and its first since 2008. Northwest's first win was the Graceland Invitational back in 2007.
The Bearcats shot a team score of 345, two strokes off the program record. Avila University finished 10 strokes behind in second place. Park (367), William Jewell (371) and AIB (381) rounded out the top five. Seven teams competed overall.
Freshman Cassie Lowe placed second Saturday, a little more than a week after taking third at Iowa Western. Lowe shot 9-over-par and finished in a tie with Avila's Madeline Willmore.
Northwest seniors Erin Luchtel and Jessica Feuerbach tied for fourth place, two strokes behind Lowe at 83. Park's Plern Prombboobpa earned medalist honors with a 1-over-par 73.
Northwest junior Megan Chaney finished in a tie for 10th place with a round of 89. Freshman Kristina D'Angela shot 92 in her first collegiate event and placed 13th as did teammate Tess Edwards.
