Northwest Places Fifth at MIAA Championships
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State junior Erin Luchtel posted rounds of 87 and 92 to finish as the Bearcats' top finisher at the MIAA Championship Meet hosted Monday and Tuesday by Tiffany Greens Golf Club. Northwest placed fifth at the meet with a two-day team total of 747.
Luchtel placed 17th in the individual race for the second year in a row. Her first-round score was a spring season best. Sophomore Megan Chaney shot 188 to finish 21st while junior Jessica Feuerbach shot 189 to finish 22nd. Freshman Tess Edwards and junior Lauren Atkinson also competed on the Northwest team.
Nebraska-Omaha won its second straight team championship with a two-day total of 627. In addition, the Mavericks' Danielle Suponchick earned medalist honors after finishing with a 10-over-par 154. Suponchick finished second to teammate Erin Ommen at the inaugural championship meet last season. Ommen placed fourth this time around.
Truman edged Missouri Western 670-676 to place second. Truman's Jennifer Lawson and Missouri Western's Natalie Bird tied for second place in the individual race two strokes back of Suponchick. MIAA newcomer Fort Hays State took fourth place as a team.
