Chaney, Feuerbach Set Records at Avila Invitational
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State freshman golfer Megan Chaney broke the program's 36-hole record and sophomore Jessica Feuerbach broke its 18-hole record at the Avila Fall Invitational Friday at Minor Park Golf Course.
The Bearcats finished second at the event with a two-day team total of 693, 13 shots back of Missouri Western. It's the first time Northwest has finished with less than 700 strokes. The program has competed in eight 36-hole tournaments since it made its debut last season.
Feuerbach shot an 82 Friday, one stroke better than teammate Sarah Hayes' 83 posted at Avila's tournament last spring. Feuerbach finished the tournament in ninth place with a two-day total of 170.
Chaney finished in eighth place with a two-day score of 169. She followed Thursday's round of 86 with a collegiate-best 83. Northwest shot 343 as a team Friday.
Erin Luchtel, who fired a low round of 84 for the Bearcats Thursday, shot 88 Friday and finished in 11th place. Hayes posted scores of 92 and 90 and finished 15th. Olivia Hawkins took 19th place with a total of 193.
Avila served as the final tournament for Northwest this fall. The spring schedule is highlighted by the MIAA's first-ever conference tournament to be played April 19-21 in Kansas City, Mo.
