Football Tabbed in Top 25 of Pre-Season Rankings

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Two pre-season polls were recently released and the Northwest Missouri State football team appeared near the top in both. Lindy’s Football Annual ranked the Bearcats in the third spot, while the Sporting News selected them as the 12th best team in the country. In addition, the Sporting News honored a pair of Bearcats with pre-season All-America honors with senior defensive back Brandon Dixon and junior punter Kyle Goodburn being named to the team.

The Bearcats are coming off their ninth consecutive trip to the postseason as Adam Dorrel enters his third season as the Head Coach at Northwest. The 2012 season ended in double overtime in the second round of the postseason as the Bearcats posted a 10-3 overall record.

Dixon is coming off of a stellar campaign in which he had 38 tackles while compiling 5 interceptions for 90 yards along with one touchdown. He put the exclamation point on his season when he was named second team All-America by

Junior Kyle Goodburn averaged 44.3 yards per punt last season and placed 18 punts inside the 20 yard line. He performed at his best in some of the biggest games of the season including placing three punts inside the 20 during the 31-21 victory over, then No. 1, Pittsburg State and unloading a booming 59 yard punt against Harding in a victory in the first round of the playoffs.
