More Preseason Honors, Rankings from

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State football team was ranked third to begin the 2013 season in the preseason poll. Senior defensive back Brandon Dixon also garnered first-team All-America honors from the publication and junior punter Kyle Goodburn was a second-team honoree.

Defending national champion Valdosta State topped the polls, just ahead of Minnesota State. The MIAA was also represented on the poll by Missouri Western, who was ranked fifth, and Pittsburg State, who will begin the season ranked 20th. Thursday’s season opening opponent Saginaw Valley State was ranked 18th.

Dixon was named to the Daktronics and D2Football second-team All-America squads in 2012. The senior snatched five interceptions on the year and had one return for a touchdown against East Central in the team’s 33-3 victory to start the 2012 season.

Goodburn was named third team All-America last season as well as first team All-MIAA during his sophomore campaign while being tabbed the D2Football Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against then-No. 1 Pittsburg State.

The Bearcats begin the season Thursday night against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium. Fans can purchase tickets online and students can find information on securing their tickets here.
