Bearcats Ranked Fourth in AFCA DII Coaches’ PollWACO, Texas. – The Northwest Missouri State football team was ranked fourth in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) preseason poll released on Monday. Northwest received 616 total points and one first-place vote.
Six of the Bearcats’ 2013 opponents were either ranked or received votes in Monday’s poll.
“The preseason rankings really speak to the quality of our conference and our schedule as a whole,” said head coach Adam Dorrel. “When you play in the MIAA, you are going to be tested every week. There are no off weeks for us and we will get everyone’s best shot. We know we have a target on our backs and our team looks forward to every test we get.”
Northwest will open the season at Bearcat Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 5, against No. 22 Saginaw Valley State with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The next highest-ranking MIAA member was Missouri Western, who was ranked sixth in the poll, and will meet up with Northwest for the last game of the regular season in St. Joseph, Mo., on Nov. 16.
Pittsburg State was ranked 21st and will take on the Bearcats in the Fall Classic at Arrowhead on Oct. 19.
Also receiving votes was Central Missouri (Oct. 12), Washburn (Nov. 2) and Emporia State (Nov. 9).
