Bearcats finish 10th in final AFCA Poll
MARYVILLE, Mo. – For the ninth consecutive season the Northwest Missouri State football team earned a top 10 ranking in the final AFCA Coaches Poll released by the organization Monday.
The Bearcats finish ranked 10th after their ninth straight 10-win season and advancing to the NCAA Division II playoffs. It was also the ninth straight trip to the NCAA playoffs for Northwest – the longest current streak in NCAA – as the Bearcats advanced to the second round falling to Minnesota State Mankato in a double overtime thriller.
Valdosta State jumped from No. 17 to claim the top spot after rolling past Winston Salem State in the championship game. Finishing behind the second-ranked Rams is No. 3 Minnesota State Mankato, who fell in the semifinals to Valdosta State. West Texas A&M finishes the season at No. 4 after their first semifinal appearance followed by Missouri Western at No. 5.
Colorado State Pueblo entered the postseason ranked No. 1 and finishes at No. 6 after a quarterfinal loss. Indiana (Pa.) checks in at No. 7 with New Haven at No. 8 and Ashland at No. 9 as the Bearcats round out the top 10.
Northwest has now appeared in a record 165 weeks of the AFCA Top 25 out of a possible 175 since the polls’ inception in 2000. The Bearcats have also appeared in the top 10 every season since 2003 when Northwest finished the year ranked No. 25 in the final poll.
