DeJong and Dixon earn AP All-America honors
MARYVILLE, Mo. – Senior Nate DeJong and junior Brandon Dixon were honored again, being named to The Associated Press All-America Teams announced by the organization Thursday.
DeJong was a second team selection as Dixon earned third team honors in his first season at Northwest. The pair helped the Bearcats lead the nation with 28 interceptions on the season and post the second toughest defense in the nation allowing only 13.8 points per game.
DeJong recorded a team-high seven interceptions on the season and added 1.5 tackles for a loss. The Rock Rapids, Iowa native has also been named to the Daktronics All-America Team and the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team.
Dixon recorded five interceptions on the season and added 10 passes defended. The junior quickly made his impact felt at Northwest with an interception return for a touchdown in the season opening win against East Central.
Northwest finished the season 10-3 and with their ninth straight NCAA playoff appearance, the longest streak in the nation. The Bearcats have also posted nine consecutive 10-win seasons.
