Bearcat football opens camp
MARYVILLE, Mo. – Northwest Missouri State football officially reported for fall camp Wednesday, 22 days before the Bearcats open their season at home against East Central.
Coaches have been pleased with the off-season progress made as 126 players went through physicals and meetings before hitting the practice field Thursday morning for the first official practice of 2012.
“We’re real excited to get to be back around the kids,” second-year head coach Adam Dorrel said. “The entire coaching staff is looking forward to interacting with the kids as they have done everything we’ve asked of them. Since January they have taken care of academics, workouts and been great in the community and I’m really proud of them.”
After Wednesday’s traditional reporting day, the Bearcats will hit the field at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in helmets before adding shoulder pads on Saturday. Monday will be the first time the Bearcats put on all their pads preparing for the first of two scrimmages. The Bearcats scrimmages are set for Thursday, Aug. 16 and Thursday, Aug. 23. Both scrimmages are open to the public with start times of 6 p.m.
The annual Meet the Bearcats event will be held before the Aug. 23 scrimmage; Bearcat players and coaches will be available on Mel Tjeerdsma Field starting at 5:15 p.m. for pictures and autographs. The 2012 Bearcat Football posters and schedule cards will also be available.
The team will break camp on Friday to prepare for the season opener on Aug. 30 against East Central.
