Bearcats honored by

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat football team will open the season ranked No. 5 as announced Monday by as the organization released preseason rankings and awards.

Northwest begins the season in the top five, while defending national champion Minnesota-Duluth starts the season at No. 1. Delta State opens up at No. 2 after falling in last year's title game to the Bulldogs followed by Abilene Christian at No. 3 and Grand Valley State at No. 4.

Texas A&M-Kingsville will open at No. 6 while Sheppard is No. 7, and MIAA rival Central Missouri starts the season at No. 8. Rounding out the top 10 is Augustana at No. 9 and Albany State at No. 10.

The organization also released its preseason All-America lists, which saw a pair of Northwest athletes receive accolades on each side of the ball. Jake Soy was named First Team All-America wide receiver after tying the MIAA record for touchdown receptions in 2010. Joining Soy- is linebacker Chad Kilgore, who was also tabbed to the First Team after leading the Bearcats in tackles last season.

The Bearcats close out fall camp Thursday, Aug. 25, with their final scrimmage of camp open to the public. Fans are encouraged to come out and meet the Bearcats as players will be available for autographs and pictures after the scrimmage.
