Football names captains for 2011

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State seniors Blake Christopher (QB), Derrick Hightower (DB), Chad Kilgore (LB), Kyle Kilgore (TE), Josh Lorenson (DT) and Jake Soy (WR) have been named team captains for the 2011 football season as selected by their teammates, head coach Scott Bostwick announced.
Northwest went 12-2 last season and made an appearance in the national semifinals. The Bearcats have won five consecutive MIAA titles and will enter 2011 with an MIAA record 46 straight wins.
Christopher made seven appearances last season, completed four passes on six attempts and threw for 19 yards. Christopher also carried nine times for 34 yards. Christopher played in 10 games in 2009, completing 69 percent of his passes for 336 yards and three touchdowns.
Hightower has played in 21 games and made eight tackles during his three-year career. He played in 12 games a year ago and made four tackles, including two in a home victory against Fort Hays State. He also saw time in Northwest's national semifinal contest against Minnesota-Duluth.
Chad Kilgore was named a second-team All-American by two publications last season and was also a first-team all-MIAA selection and first team all-region member. Kilgore was named the team's Defensive MVP as he led Northwest with 131 total tackles a season ago to go along with three sacks and two interceptions, including one pick he returned for a touchdown. For his career Kilgore has 269 tackles and 10.5 tackles for loss.
Kyle Kilgore had 19 catches for 270 yards and a touchdown while starting in all 14 games for the Bearcats a season ago. Kilgore has made 47 grabs for 647 yards and four scores in his career. Had a season-high four catches in Northwest's quarterfinal win over Central Missouri last season.
Lorenson was an all-MIAA first-team selection and was a second-team Super Region Four pick. Lorenson had 78 tackles, 10 of them for loss, and 5.5 sacks last season. Lorenson broke out in the playoffs, recording 26 tackles, five for a loss, and three sacks in four postseason games.
Soy, the 2009 National Wide Receiver of the Year, is in his second season as a captain. Soy was a first team all-MIAA selection and a second-team all-region choice last year. Soy led the team in receptions (83), yards (1311) and touchdowns (12). Soy's 12 grabs for 161 yards in the playoffs against Texas A&M-Kingsville were both career highs. Soy was a second-team Academic All-American and for his career he has 40 touchdown catches.
