Green bests White behind Kilgore, Christopher
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State quarterback Blake Christopher passed for 119 yards, ran for 26 more and accounted for the game's lone touchdown in the Bearcats' spring game Saturday at Bearcat Stadium where Green beat White 10-0.
Christopher completed two passes for 68 yards on the opening drive of the second half, which he capped with a 3-yard touchdown run. Christopher hooked up with Clint Utter for 39 yards down the left sideline and worked a 29-yard screen pass to Denver Lohnes down the right sideline to reach the 3.
Lohnes, a true freshman, carried 11 times for a game-high 38 yards and caught five passes for 33. His 18-yard carry set up a 38-yard field goal by Todd Adolf early in the fourth quarter that completed the scoring.
All-American linebacker Chad Kilgore had five tackles, half a sack and a first-half interception to help Green get the shutout. Green picked off three passes, had three sacks and limited White to 121 yards of offense.
Trevor Adams quarterbacked the White squad and completed 14-of-28 passes for 110 yards, but was intercepted twice. Bryce Young and Taylor Pierce had five catches each for White and combined for 101 yards receiving.
Jordan Simmons carried seven times for 26 yards to lead White in rushing and had four catches for nine yards. Jake Soy was targeted several times at wide receiver for White, but finished with no catches.
The game was played with a running clock during three 12-minute quarters and with normal clock rules during a 15-minute fourth quarter. The teams combined to run 95 offensive plays in a game that lasted a little more than an hour-and-a-half.
