Northwest Football Celebrates 2010 Season

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State coaches, fans and student-athletes celebrated the 2010 season in a ceremony Sunday inside the Ron Houston Center for Performing Arts.

The 2010 Bearcat football highlight video was introduced and a special presentation was made to Coach Mel Tjeerdsma and his wife, Carol. The football staff presented the legendary coach with a poster which featured a collage of photos representing their 17 years of service to Northwest and Maryville.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the 2010 football awards. A listing of those awards can be found below:

Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year: Bryce Young

Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year: Matt Longacre

Most Valuable Special Teams Player: Jordan Simmons

Most Valuable Offensive Player: Josh Baker

Most Valuable Defensive Player: Chad Kilgore

Spirit of the Bearcat Award: Bill Baudler

Fans interested in purchasing the 2010 highlight DVD may email Steve Juhl at juhls@sjcs.k12.mo.us for purchase information. It features an exclusive half-hour interview with Mel Tjeerdsma and highlights from each game. Cost is $20.

For fans in Maryville, the DVD will also be available in the Bearcat Bookstore located on the second floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union starting the week of Feb. 21.
