Grozinger fourth in Gene Upshaw balloting
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State senior offensive lineman Brett Grozinger finished fourth in the balloting for the 2010 Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award. The award is sponsored by the Manheim Touchdown Club and voted upon by the nation's NCAA Division II sports information directors.
It's the second consecutive year Grozinger has been a finalist for the award and third year in a row that a Bearcat has been placed on the national ballot. Jeremy Davis finished second in the voting for the 2008 award.
Brandon Fusco, a senior offensive center for Slippery Rock University, was the recipient of this year's award. He beat out Colorado School of Mines senior defensive tackle Marc Schiechl and North Alabama defensive end Courtney Harris, who placed second and third, respectively. A total of eight names were carried to the final ballot.
A native of Chillicothe, Mo., Grozinger started the first nine games of the 2010 season before missing three with an injury. He returned and played sparingly against Central Missouri and Minnesota Duluth in the NCAA playoffs.
Four national publications named Grozinger to their All-America team one season ago when he helped lead the Bearcats to a national championship and a 14-1 record. Northwest finished 12-2 this season, 9-0 in winning its fifth straight MIAA title, and advanced to the national semifinals for the sixth consecutive season.
Grozinger competed in 41 games during his four-year career in Maryville. He helped pace a Bearcat offense that averaged 34 points and 420 yards of offense per game this season.
