(Warrensburg, Mo.) - Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has accepted an invitation from University of Central Missouri President Dr. Chuck Ambrose to attend the Central Missouri Mules football game on Saturday, November 6 at 1:30 p.m. against Northwest Missouri State at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field.
Governor Nixon will participate in the pre-game coin toss for a game that features more than 90 student-athletes from across the state of Missouri. The two NCAA Division II affiliated schools will be competing for the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Championship, as both are undefeated in conference play.
The No. 6 ranked Mules (9-1, 8-0 MIAA) and No. 3 ranked Bearcats (7-1, 7-0 MIAA) are the only two teams in the league that can claim a share of the title. NWMSU brings a 44-game conference win streak into Warrensburg on Saturday, and has made five consecutive trips to the national championship game. UCM has won 10 consecutive home games, the longest current streak in the MIAA. The Mules are also 8-0 in the MIAA for the first time in school history, and with a win over the defending national champion Bearcats, they would clinch their first out-right MIAA Championship since 1986.
Both offenses are potent, with Central Missouri averaging 41.6 points per game, and Northwest Missouri averaging 41.0 points per outing. The Mules boast the nation's leading passer in senior quarterback Eric Czerniewski (3,772 yards, 33 TD's), while Northwest Missouri has the league's top defense, allowing only 20.6 points per contest.
