Tjeerdsma featured in Sports Illustrated

MARYVILLE, Mo.-An interview between former National Football League quarterback Archie Manning and Northwest Missouri State head football coach Mel Tjeerdsma can be found in this week's issue (Oct. 4, 2010) of Sports Illustrated.

The article is one in a series of interviews between Manning and 2009 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year award winners. Gary Patterson of Texas Christian University, Jerry Moore of Appalachian State and Steve Staker of Coe College are also 2009 honorees.

In this week's issue, Tjeerdsma talks about preparing students for life after football, a commitment to community involvement and his father, among other things.
