Northwest Spring Football Game Set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State's football team will hold its annual spring game at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Bearcat Stadium. The event is free and open to the public.
With the exception of quarterbacks Blake Bolles and Jesse Pierce, the Bearcats will be split into two squads and compete in a simulated game. Bolles and Pierce will play a limited number of series for both teams before giving way to freshmen Trevor Adams and Tyler Seals.
The only special team's plays will be extra point and field goal attempts without a rush. Instead of kickoffs, teams will start from their own 30-yard line. Instead of punts, the ball will be advanced 40 yards. The offense will be granted a fourth down play shall the team advance into the opponent's 45-yard line.
Northwest is under the guidance of head coach Mel Tjeerdsma, who will begin his 17th season with the Bearcats. Northwest, 14-1 last season, won 14 straight games to capture its first national championship since 1999. The Bearcats have won four consecutive MIAA championships and will enter the 2010 season having won 37 consecutive games in conference play.
