MARYVILLE, Mo.-The top quarterback-wide receiver combination in Division II was rewarded with top honors as the Web site D2Football.com announced its 2009 All-America Team.

Northwest Missouri State junior quarterback Blake Bolles and sophomore wide receiver Jake Soy, who hooked up an MIAA-record 26 times in 2009, were named to D2Football.com's first team. Senior running back LaRon Council, junior offensive guard Brett Grozinger and senior safety Myles Burnsides were second-team honorees.

Northwest Missouri State led all programs with its five selections. In addition, head coach Mel Tjeerdsma was named the site's Coach of the Year after leading the Bearcats to a 14-1 record and the program's third national title in 12 seasons.

Bolles is the first Northwest quarterback to earn All-America honors from D2Football.com since the team's inception in 2000. The last quarterback to earn first-team All-America honors from any publication is Chris Greisen, who was a first teamer in 1997 and 1998. Bolles passed for 4,145 yards and threw 42 touchdowns in 2009 - both are MIAA records.

Soy's 27 touchdown receptions this past season are the third-most in Division II history. He caught 92 passes for an MIAA-record 1,559 yards, which led the nation.

Council and Burnsides are D2Football.com All-Americans for the second year in a row. Council ran for 1,782 yards and scored 22 touchdowns while averaging six yards per carry. He also caught 42 passes for 349 yards and a score. Burnsides finished second on the team with 82 tackles and tied for the team lead with five interceptions.

Grozinger was a finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award and has earned All-America status from three publications. Grozinger helped lead an offense that averaged 42 points and 475 yards per game.

Senior defensive lineman Tyler Roach and sophomore linebacker Chad Kilgore were named honorable mention. Kilgore led Northwest with 96 tackles. Roach added 48 stops including 4.5 sacks and 8.5 tackles-for-loss.
