The Final Four

Sean Paddock, Senior, DE, Football

Paddock here,
Sorry it's been so long. It's been a busy couple weeks with class even though I only have a few. Saturday was a tough one. We just weren't playing great in the first half. We weren't playing terrible, but we just didn't look like ourselves.

I'm not exactly sure what it was that sparked us at halftime. There were a number of guys giving pump-up speeches or maybe it was their fans talking crap as we walked in and out of the locker room. For me it was two things. The first was my good friend Abe pacing back and forth helplessly and looking for his helmet even though he couldn't remember what route he ran when he got hit. The second was watching CWU dance around on the field at half time as if the game was over... as if my career was over. It just struck a nerve with me and everyone else and in the second half we played like a whole different team.

The last drive never seemed like it would end. We had the four incompletions and then the unfortunate PI call that extended their drive. When they finally scored, I turned and looked directly at our defense and said, "they haven't tied us yet." Then we blocked the kick and that was it. It made for a more pleasant flight home which was capped off with Dr. Bob announcing that the semis would be played at Bearcat Stadium. I couldn't have asked for a better holiday gift.

We play California (PA) and I haven't had the chance to watch any tape yet but will start on Monday. I don't know anything about them except that they had their season cut short last year in the semis by Minnesota Duluth and that they were the only team that didn't have a close game last Saturday.

Those things alone assure me that this week will be a tough game and it's going to take an incredible week of practice. We'll have Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, walkthrough on Friday, and then the lights go on Saturday night for a final four matchup. I'm excited for the opportunity to play again in front of the home crowd and also to have a chance to punch our ticket back to Florence.

Well, the preparation starts now, I'm headed up to workouts.
