Northwest Leads the Way With Eight All-Region Picks

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State tied a program mark by placing eight student-athletes on the 2009 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Super Region 4 team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Bearcats also had eight choices in 2000.
Northwest led the region with its eight picks, which included a region-best five first-team choices. Those included offensive lineman Brett Grozinger, wide receiver Jake Soy, running back LaRon Council, linebacker Chad Kilgore and safety Myles Burnsides.
Second-team honors went to quarterback Blake Bolles, offensive lineman Jason Wiseman and cornerback Ryan Jones.
Of the eight picks, only Council and Burnsides are seniors and both were all-region honorees a year ago. Soy and Kilgore are sophomores and the rest juniors.
Midwestern State quarterback Zack Eskridge, the nation's leader in passing efficiency, garnered offensive player of the year honors. Washburn linebacker Zach Watkins was named defensive player of the year.
Soy, Council and Burnsides were the leading vote getters at their respective positions. All five Bearcat first-team choices will be placed on the All-America ballot.
