Bearcats Get Bye, Home Game Nov. 21
MARYVILLE, Mo.-MIAA-champion Northwest Missouri State (10-1) has been named the No. 2 seed in Super Regional 4 and has earned a first-round bye in the NCAA Division II football playoffs, set to begin Nov. 14. The Bearcats will play the winner of Lone Star Conference members Abilene Christian (8-3) and Midwestern State (9-2), the No. 6 and No. 3 seeds, respectively at Bearcat Stadium Nov. 21 in a noon kickoff (CST).
The LSC qualified four teams as the other side of the bracket pits No. 5 Tarleton State (9-2) at No. 4 Texas A&M-Kingsville (9-2). The winner will travel to top-seeded Central Washington (11-0), the lone undefeated Division II team in the nation.
Northwest has earned its 14th NCAA playoff appearance and its 12th in the last 14 years. The Bearcats have advanced to the national championship game in each of the last four seasons.
Abilene Christian handed Northwest its only loss this season in a 19-14 win in Texas during the opening week of the season. The Bearcats also loss to the Wildcats in last year's season opener, but won the rematch, 45-36, in the final of last year's regional.
Northwest is 3-0 all-time against Midwestern State with the last meeting resulting in a 26-0 win at Bearcat Stadium in the second round of the 2006 NCAA playoffs. The Bearcats also won 52-14 and 55-16 in the season openers of the 1997 and 1998 seasons, respectively.
With 25 wins in his previous 11 playoff appearances, Tjeerdsma is the winningest DII coach in postseason history. He's 10-1 in opening games and 15-3 at home.
- Season Ticket Holders - Tickets will be on sale Monday, Nov. 9, at 8 a.m. through Friday, Nov. 13, at 4:30 p.m. Season ticket holders may claim their season seats. Beginning Monday, Nov. 16, any seats unclaimed by season ticket holders will be released for sale to the general public.
- General Public - Monday, Nov. 16 through Friday, Nov. 20; 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
On the day of competition, the ticket booths will open two-and-a-half hours prior to kickoff and gates will open an hour-and-a-half prior to kickoff.
Ticket prices for playoff games are as follows:
Reserved: $12 (all ages)
Standing Room Only (SRO): $8 (all ages)
Northwest Students: $5 w/ID (only one ticket per student at this price)
Note: The NCAA prohibits complimentary admission
Should Northwest advance and host a game on Nov. 28, the following procedure will be utilized:
- Season Ticket Holders - Tickets will be on sale Monday, Nov. 23, at 8 a.m. through 12 p.m Tuesday, Nov. 24. Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 12:30 p.m. any seats unclaimed by season ticket holders will be released for sale to the general public.
- Ticket sales will end Wednesday, Nov. 26 at noon. Offices close at 1:00 p.m.
