MARYVILLE, Mo.-Seniors Sean Paddock, Myles Burnsides and Evan Wilmes along with sophomore Jake Soy have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII Football Team as voted on by the district's sports information directors and announced Thursday.

Paddock, Burnsides and Wilmes were first-team selections and as such will be placed on the Academic All-America ballot. Soy was voted to the second team.

Burnsides, a second-team Academic All-American a year ago, has earned all-district honors in all three seasons (freshman aren't eligible). Burnsides is Northwest's second-leading tackler with 53 stops this season. He has three interceptions and had a 40-yard interception return for a score in last week's win against Fort Hays State.

Paddock has earned first-team all-district honors in all three seasons. Despite missing half of the team's 10 games, Paddock leads the Bearcats with 5.5 sacks and is third with seven tackles-for-loss. Paddock could return to the lineup as soon as Saturday and is expected to be available for the Bearcats' playoff run.

Wilmes is earning academic honors for the second time in his career. Wilmes has a career-high 47 tackles through 10 games, the third-highest total on the team. He also has a sack and four tackles-for-loss. Wilmes carries a 3.92 grade point average as a philosophy major.

At the time the ballots were released, Soy's 15 touchdown receptions were leading the nation. He added four more last weekend and currently has scored the third-most touchdowns in all of Division II.

Unfortunately, those credentials were overlooked by the district's sports information directors who selected Chadron State's Brandon Harrington to the first team. Harrington had 29 catches for 372 yards and two touchdowns to go with a 3.76 GPA on his ballot. Soy had 37 catches for 704 yards and 15 touchdowns to go with a 3.82 GPA.
