Jake Soy Named MIAA Player of the Week
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State sophomore wide receiver Jake Soy has been named the MIAA's Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts on Oct. 31. Soy, a native of Durant, Iowa, tied his own program-record for single game touchdown grabs with four touchdowns on Saturday against Fort Hays State in Northwest's 66 to 40 victory.
Soy also broke both Northwest's and the MIAA's all-time record for touchdown catches in a single season. Soy has now caught 19 touchdowns this season, the previous record was 16, held by Tony Miles of Northwest and Lester McCoy of Emporia State.
On the season, Soy leads the league with 55 catches and 959 yards receiving. Soy, not surprisingly also leads the nation in touchdown catches.
Soy and the Bearcats will finish their 2009 regular season on Saturday at Bearcat Stadium against Central Missouri at 1 p.m.
