Soy Breaks Two Records in Northwest Win

Box Score

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Sixth-ranked Northwest Missouri State outscored Missouri Southern 38-0 and outgained the Lions 355-54 in the first half to cruise to a 52-6 win Saturday at Bearcat Stadium. It's the 15th straight win in the series for the Bearcats, who won their 33rd straight game in MIAA play.

Northwest quarterback Blake Bolles passed for 278 yards and four touchdowns in less than two quarters of play. Three of those scores were to Jake Soy who set a program record with four touchdown receptions, all of which came in the first half. Soy also broke Jamaica Rector's regular season record for touchdown catches. His 14 are one more than Rector had in 2004.

Bolles and backup quarterback Blake Christopher combined to pass for 453 yards - 20 shy of the Bearcats' program record set in 2001. Christopher completed 14-of-20 passes for a career-best 175 yards and two scores.

Nick Rhodes' 123 yards receiving nearly doubled his previous high as a Bearcat. His 27-yard touchdown catch from Bolles gave Northwest a 10-0 lead 10 minutes into the game.

Soy capped four of Northwest's next five offensive series with touchdown grabs of 35, 19, 1 and 5 yards. He finished with six catches for 72 yards.

Northwest led 45-0 before Johnny Johnson carried in from three yards out on the first play of the fourth quarter. The extra point attempt was missed. Johnson carried 15 times and led the Lions with 52 yards.

Roland Thompson completed 12-of-23 passes for 89 yards in his second start as Missouri Southern's quarterback. He was picked off twice by Ryan Jones who has six interceptions in his career.

The win is the sixth straight for Northwest (6-1, 5-0 MIAA) which improved to 26-1 at home since 2005. Missouri Southern (1-5, 1-4 MIAA) has lost its last three.
