Shaw Named MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week
Maryville, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State wide receiver Tyler Shaw has been named the MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance last weekend. Shaw scored three touchdowns in the Bearcats' 70-0 win over Truman on Saturday at Bearcat Stadium.
Shaw scored Northwest's first two touchdowns of the game, first hauling in a 14-yard touchdown pass from Blake Bolles to put the Bearcats up 7-0. Shaw then recovered a blocked punt in the endzone to put Northwest up 14-0 early in the game.
Shaw would also take a 92-yard kickoff return back to the house to open the second half for Northwest to give him two special teams touchdowns and three for the game. The return was the longest kickoff return for a Bearcat since the opener of 2002.
Shaw becomes the first Bearcat this season to earn MIAA player of the week honors. Shaw leads the Bearcats this season with 17 receptions, and has gained 205 yards with the lone score. Shaw, a native of St. Louis, Mo., also finished fourth as a true freshman this past spring at the NCAA outdoor track and field championships in the 110-meter high hurdles.
