Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-Region Team Released

PITTSBURG, Kan.-NCAA National runner-up Northwest Missouri State had a team-best 11 players selected to Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-Super Region Four Team released late last week. The total is the highest for Northwest in the seven years Don Hansen has published an all-region team. The Bearcats had 10 picks in 2006 and 2007.

Abilene Christian also had 11 selections, including seven first-team picks. Northwest had four first-team picks, four second-team picks and three third-team selections.

All 11 Northwest student-athletes were 2008 all-MIAA honorees. Four earned all-region honors by Don Hansen a year ago and two were 2007 Don Hansen All-Americans.

Northwest first-team all-region selections include: junior running back LaRon Council, senior offensive guard Jeremy Davis, junior defensive end Sean Paddock and junior safety Myles Burnsides. Davis was a first-team All-American a year ago. Burnsides earned second-team all-region honors in 2007.

Northwest second-team all-region selections include: senior quarterback Joel Osborn, senior wide receiver Kendall Wright, senior offensive guard Tom Pestock and senior offensive tackle Reid Kirby. Wright is a three-time Don Hansen all-region honoree. Kirby earned All-America honors in 2006 and 2007.

Senior tight end Josh Gannan, senior cornerback Brandon Clayton and sophomore safety Aldwin Foster-Rettig were third-team selections. All three are first-team Don Hansen honorees.

A total of 98 players earned some form of Football Gazette All-Super Region Four honors. Players from 27 of the 31 football-playing schools in Super Region Four earned all-region honors.

The first- and second-team picks advance to the national ballot from which the 2008 NCAA Division II Football Gazette All-America team will be named later this month.
