MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State junior safety Myles Burnsides has been named the Daktronics All-Super Region 4 Defensive Player of the Year as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Burnsides is the first Bearcat player to earn the award.

Burnsides is one of six Bearcats on the all-region teams. In addition to Burnsides, senior offensive lineman Jeremy Davis, junior running back LaRon Council, senior return man Kendall Wright and junior defensive lineman Sean Paddock were first-team selections. Senior offensive lineman Tom Pestock earned second-team honors.

Burnsides, the MIAA Defensive Most Valuable Player, leads the MIAA with five interceptions this season. He's the only Northwest player to record double-digit tackles in a game this year and his 63 stops are third on the team.

Northwest and Abilene Christian were the only teams to have two offensive linemen selected. Davis and Pestock combined have made 69 consecutive starts at right guard and left guard, respectively. Northwest ranks seventh nationally in yards per game with 470, including 194 per game on the ground. The Bearcats have allowed 19 sacks in 13 games for the 38th best average in the nation.

Council is the fourth player in Northwest history to rush for 1,500 yards in a single-season. His 1,501 yards this season are the seventh-most in program history and his 32 touchdowns are second to Abilene Christian back Bernard Scott's 34. No other player in Division II has more than 24.

Wright was voted top return specialist after averaging nearly 12 yards per punt return and more than 23 yards per kick return. Wright has 1,654 all-purpose yards this season, including 875 in the return game. He also leads the Bearcats in receiving with 59 catches for 754 yards and five touchdowns.

Paddock, a unanimous first-team All-MIAA pick, leads the Bearcats with 5.5 sacks and 11 tackles-for-loss. His 19 career sacks are the fifth-most in program history and his 43 tackles this season rank sixth on the team.
