Council Named Regional Finalist For Harlon Hill Award
FLORENCE, Ala.-Northwest Missouri State junior running back LaRon Council has been named one of six regional finalists and one of 24 national finalists for the 2008 Harlon Hill Trophy given annually to the NCAA Division II College Football Player of the Year.
The list of candidates was announced Friday by the National Harlon Hill Award Committee.
Players are nominated and voted on by the sports information directors at the 154 NCAA Division II football-playing institutions. The top two leading vote-getters in each of the four regions will advance to the national ballot. The full list of candidates from Super Regional 4 are listed below:

The 23rd Harlon Hill Trophy will be presented Dec. 12 on the eve of the Division II National Championship Game in Florence.
Council has rushed for 1,131 yards and scored 23 touchdowns this season. He's the 10th leading rusher and second leading scorer in the nation heading into this weekend's games, averaging 113.1 yards and 13.8 points, respectively.
Council set an MIAA record with his 99-yard touchdown run in a win against Central Missouri on Oct. 11. Council rushed for a career-best 188 yards against the Mules. He scored four touchdowns against Missouri Western (9/13) and Pittsburg State (10/4) and has six 100-yard efforts this season.
Northwest (9-1, 8-0 MIAA) is currently ranked third in the nation by two publications and second in the NCAA Super Regional 4 rankings. The Bearcats have clinched their 10th MIAA championship in the last 13 seasons and will likely secure a first-round bye in the postseason with a win against Missouri Southern Saturday in Joplin, Mo.
