Aug. 26, 2008 Has Northwest at No. 4

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State football is ranked fourth in the 2008 preseason Poll announced Tuesday. In addition, senior offensive linemen Reid Kirby and Jeremy Davis were honored on the Web site's preseason All-America list.

Defending national champion Valdosta State tops the preseason poll followed by Grand Valley State and North Alabama. Nebraska-Omaha (No. 7), Pittsburg State (No. 17) and Washburn (No. 22) give the MIAA four teams in the top 25. Abilene Christian, the Bearcats opponent on Saturday, is ranked eighth.

Kirby is one of three MIAA players predicted to earn first-team All-America honors in 2008. Missouri Western offensive lineman Roger Allen and Nebraska-Omaha linebacker Jeff Souder is the other. Davis is one of two conference players featured on the second team.

Kirby and Davis were also featured in Lindy's Magazine as first-team preseason All-Americans. Junior running back LaRon Council was listed on the second team.

Kirby has made 41 consecutive starts at left tackle heading into the 2008 season and earned four All-America honors in 2007. Davis is a first-team All-American who started all 14 games at right guard for the Bearcats a year ago.
